A nice place to set down for a while, it's quiet & right on the Mississippi River. Ask for a water front site if your willing to pay the extra money (6.00) for it. The WIFI signal needs a bit of attention paid to it, we were in space #74 & even with my outdoor antenna the signal strength was nominal to poor. Aside from that we have no problems with returning again.
This park needs an update for facilities available anyway. The WI-FI is free. We stayed here over a weekend. On Friday evening the signal began to degrade & then all but disappear. On Saturday we inquired in the office about it & were told by the office staff that the person who takes care of the system does not work weekends. Monday came & still no relief. Finally on Tuesday it came back up but only marginally. The interior roads are a bit narrow. Long fifth wheels might have some backing in problems. Our motorhome made it in but only after pulling onto someone space to do so. Lots of trees, satellite reception could be a problem. Power levels fluctuated quite a bit. I almost forgot the train tracks on the south side of the park. Train traffic is fairly heavy during the day, but during the time we were there only one train after hours. Nice big lake if you boat or fish.
After reading the first two reviews above I must admit that this park does have a lot to offer. I found nothing wrong with either one. That's the up-side. Now for the down-side. The cost of using the washing machines in the laundry is $2.00 per load. The cost of user time on the extremely slow WI-FI system is $50.00/mo.,$25.00/wk., $15.00/day, & for $4.95 you can have it for 2 hours. These are undoubtedly the most expensive rates that I have ever run into in fifteen years of full timing. However I've got to admit that WI-FI hasn't been around all that time. The park is nice but with the rates that are charged for amenities here I don't think I'll be giving it my business in the near future. Maybe the rates are so high because there isn't any competition around . At least none that I've been able to come up with.
We camped at this location for 2 nights, the park overall is in very good shape. The WI-FI was down at the time & we didn't get the impression that their was much of a hurry to get it back up. When it is up it is free. Their have been complaints about narrow spaces. The entrance to the sites are a bit narrow but the spaces themselves are quite sufficient. I backed into our space with a 38' motorhome without any problems. Would we stay their again? Yes. Only hopefully if & when we do they have the WI-FI up & working again.
The owner of the resort has discontinued the Western Horizons affiliation & is in the process of making this a members only park in the Ocean Canyon Properties System. Although we have been told that at the present time he has agreed to maintain a certain number of sites for Western Horizons members. How long this will continue is your guess as well as mine. I think it would be advisable to call WH first before coming by the resort. The rate we paid is WH fees & covers not only 50 amp service ($1.00) per day but a daily WI-FI charge ($2.00). This is inexpensive enough as it is but we have not heard what the new fees will be for WH members in the future if in fact their will be.
We spent 2 months in this location this year. The site pad paving project has been put on hold temporarily due some legal issues. as usual our stay was quite pleasant but we'll be much happier when the paving project is complete.
All of the reviews posted are not the problem here, the problem lies in the city (town) that is given as it's (the parks) location. The location listed is Sutton, WV. but, the actual location is up the freeway a short distance in the town of Flatwood, WV. I don't understand how the location name mistake came about but the real location should be changed. As reference please see the Trailer Life 2009 Campground directory, page 1330, center page under "Flatwoods."
